Refine Your Modern Calligraphy – Intermediate workshop with Kate Illustrate
Join Kate for a relaxed and inspiring morning at the wonderful Artisan in Whalley. This in-person workshop is designed for those with some calligraphy experience who are ready to take their skills to the next level. If you have attended my beginners workshop, this is perfect for you.
The session includes:
Calligraphy supplies - including a straight pen holder, Nikko G nib, black ink and a coloured ink.
A refresher session at the beginning of the workshop where you’ll refine your letterforms and connecting letters.
Two hours of guided instruction with plenty of one-to-one support. You will focus on mastering beautiful flourishes.
Hands-on practice with coloured inks and layout techniques for working on stationery.
Expert tips, tricks, and creative insights from Kate’s experience as a professional calligrapher.
Fresh ideas and encouragement to reintroduce handwritten elements into your everyday life.
Tea, coffee and pastries included.

Join calligrapher Kate Illustrate for a relaxed and inspiring morning at the beautiful Artisan in Whalley. This in-person workshop is perfect for those who already have a little experience with modern calligraphy – particularly if you’ve attended Kate’s beginners session and are ready to build on your skills.
Designed to help you develop your own confident, elegant style, this intermediate class will guide you through more advanced techniques, with a strong focus on flourishes and layout.
What’s Included:
Calligraphy Supplies to take home – Including a quality straight pen holder, a Nikko G nib, Kate Illustrate black ink and a pot of Kate Illustrate coloured ink.
Refresher warm-up session – Start the morning by revisiting the basics, refining letterforms, and practising letter connections for improved flow and consistency.
Two hours of guided tuition – Enjoy expert instruction from Kate in a small, supportive group setting. There’ll be plenty of one-to-one support as you begin to explore more intricate flourishes and creative techniques.
Hands-on practice with colour and composition – Experiment with coloured inks and learn layout techniques that are ideal for crafting personalised stationery, greetings cards or framed pieces.
Professional tips and inspiration – Kate will share her insight and experience as a working calligrapher, offering helpful tips to grow your confidence and incorporate hand lettering into your daily life.
Light refreshments provided – Enjoy a selection of tea, coffee and freshly baked pastries as you create in a calming, welcoming environment.
Spaces are limited to keep the workshop personal and relaxed, so early booking is recommended.
